Our story

Years in the making, and nearly there.

This land has been in our family for years, and this building is what we chose to do with it — the family's home, built to give them a stronger footing for the future.

We didn't borrow it into existence. We built it the slow way: a load of stones here, a few bags of cement there, whatever each month allowed. The approved plans, stamped by Machakos County, have guided every course of block.

Who is behind this project?

The Mungai Vos family. The fundraiser is organised by the Mbogi brothers — Kim, Robert and Cayley — with Cayley based in the United States. It supports finishing the family's home in Matuu, Machakos County, Kenya, which Brother Kim has led.

How does my money actually reach Kenya?

GoFundMe can't pay out to Kenya directly, so Cayley receives every donation in a verified United States bank account, then transfers it to the family in Matuu, where it's paid to the contractor stage by stage. This is GoFundMe's own recommended way to raise funds for someone in a country it doesn't yet support.

Does all of my donation reach the project?

Almost all of it. GoFundMe deducts a small payment-processing fee from each donation. At checkout it may also invite you to add an optional tip to GoFundMe itself — that tip is entirely your choice and is separate from your gift to us.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

We post photo updates on the Updates page every time a stage moves forward, so you can watch the building take shape.

Can I give another way, like M-Pesa or a bank transfer?

Yes — send us a note through the Contact page and we'll arrange it.

What if you raise more or less than the goal?

You keep whatever is raised on GoFundMe, so every gift counts even if we don't reach the target. Anything raised beyond the goal goes straight into finishing and furnishing the home.
